Shells

I am trying this new modality to keep regular buyers and new buyers up to date on the most exact inventories for available shells.  It's imperfect, but hopefully a start towards more streamline ordering.  This page will always be accessible to check for the most up to date quantities and scheduled collections.  I am also still available via email but this is an attempt for better organization and immediate reference as demand continues to grow.

After accounting for the fulfillment of open orders, I following extra Atlantic Surf Clam shells available:

All of these shells listed above are in what I consider perfect condition, particularly for the most common use for decoupage.  If you are interested in slightly imperfect (slight edge or other irregularities) shells at a discount I generally have some of those set aside as well, though I do not keep a listed inventory on hand.

This list will be updated as shells are claimed.  Negative numbers indicate how many are currently on order ahead of any order you may wish to place, for example 5": -10 would indicate there are 10 5" shells already queued on pre-order.  If you would like to claim any of these you can go right to the listing and place your order.  I will manually be updating this page as the shells are purchased to reflect accurate inventory.

 

My next planned collection is likely Saturday March 15th so even if you don't see the full quantity of the size(s) you'd like, pre-order since orders are filled in the order they are received and I can plan my collections accordingly if I know what sizes people need.

A few reminders:

• Pre-orders are not eligible for cancellation, unless the shells have not been able to be filled within an eight week period from the order date.  Any cancellation requests made prior to the 0-8 week fulfillment period will be charged a 20% cancellation fee.

 

• Under 4” and over 6” are less common on collections.
• The most abundantly collected sizes are between 4.5" and 5.5".

 

• Prime months for collection are October-April and VERY few new shells will be available May-September, so plan accordingly.

 

• If you require your shells by certain time, please be sure to include that in a note section of your order and/or email washashorestore@gmail.com prior to ordering
  

 

• If any of your shells are damaged in transport and you would like a refund or replacement for your next order you must notify me as soon as you open the package, and include a photo of the exterior of the package, including an image with the label, as well as the packaging and damaged contents so an insurance claim can be filed for a refund.  Must be sent within 2 weeks of delivery date.

 

Large Atlantic Surf clam shells from the coast of Maine.

“The Atlantic surfclam (Spisula solidissima) is the largest bivalve in the western North Atlantic, reaching a maximum length of 226 mm (commercial minimum size: 120 mm in USA and 90 mm in Canada) and longevity of 37 years in the Middle Atlantic Bight population.”

I personally use my own as soap dishes, jewelry dishes, and business card holders.  They are also popular for painting, decoupage, and for baking with. 

The shells are each 1-2” deep at the deepest part and are available for sale by size at their largest measurement across. They are each 3-7” the hinge to the ventral margin.

 

 

I also have a number of Horse Mussel, Quahog Clam, Oyster, and Atlantic Scallop shells available.
